We won't even be missed

She looked at me and her eyes said,
"I give myself to you, all of me.
All I ask is your respect.
But, even this is too much to ask from you,
the human race."
I looked at her, at her beauty,
this Mother of all things.
My head bowed in shame to the truth
of what her eyes said.
But, I also felt a respect because I knew
that when all was said and done,
Mother Earth, though scarred and damaged,
would prevail,
while our dust was blown by the winds that would come,
followed by the rains that would erase our footprints.
And we won't even be missed.
